The Partridge Story

In the late 1800s, a talented young jeweller by the name of James Timothy Partridge set sail to an unknown land; New Zealand. It was in the small town of Timaru that he hung the sign to his new shop beginning a six-generation-long legacy. Today, that sign still hangs over our door, representing nothing less than excellence in the craft of jewellery-making and an existence that defines sustainability. James’ optimism for a new beginning, his appetite for adventure and enterprising spirit live on in the Partridge brand today.

To celebrate our heritage as New Zealand’s oldest family-owned jeweller, we embarked on a photographic journey to evoke some of the most important moments of our 150-year history. Photographer Fraser Chatham puts his lens to test, bending our sense of time and place to tell the ‘Partridge 1864’ story.

Sixth Generation Jewellers

There are few families in New Zealand who can claim to have a business going back almost 200 years, let alone a jewellery dynasty. The Partridge family are the exception.

Our unique story spans two countries and covers six generations. There is a common theme of family unity, the passing of knowledge and values from one generation to the next, and the highest commitment to craft, quality and service.

Diamonds, precious gems, pearls, gold and platinum are our specialities. We design and manufacture much of the jewellery we sell, including a bespoke service for one-off pieces. We import a unique selection of pieces from leading international jewellery houses. This offers our customers jewellery in line with the very latest international trends.
