At Partridge Jewellers, family is of the utmost importance to us. As a multi-generational business, it informs how we look at the world; we are afforded a view that looks not to next week, or even next year, but to the next generation.

As an ode to the bond of family and in celebration of Mother’s Day 2023, we sought out long-time friend of the brand and broadcasting icon Carol Hirschfeld to bring to life our love of this generational story alongside her daughter, Rosa.

Carol and Rosa effortlessly embody the mother-daughter bond in a campaign shot by Olivia Kirkpatrick and film by Rachel Soh, wearing a combination of their own and borrowed Partridge Jewellery.

Can you tell us a little about your relationship with Partridge?

Carol: I’ve been so lucky over the years to have this wonderful relationship with Partridge. I’ve worked with them in different capacities; MCing at events, being part of their 150th Anniversary campaign. They have been so generous to me and allowed me to wear their jewellery to many events I have worked at, and I have some very special pieces of my own. One of the most treasured pieces I have is a diamond 'C' which I received from Grant. When Rosa turned 21, the first thing I did was head to a Partridge shop and find a diamond ‘R’ for her because I wanted her to wear something really beautiful and have something lasting for that special milestone birthday. One of the other things that is truly special about Partridge is that it is a family firm, and you know by everything about the business — the fact that all of Grant’s children are involved, that Grant inherited the business from his father, and their standing in the New Zealand business environment — that is something truly special.

Rosa, what is the greatest lesson your mother has taught you?

My mother has taught me a lot of things throughout the years, she taught me how to shop properly! She’s taught me how to cook but as cliché as it sounds, my mum is very big on not giving up. If you’re trying something, try until you can do it — she really makes me stick to that.

Carol, what does family mean to you?

Family means absolutely everything to me. The two happiest days of my life were the days when my two children were born; Will, Rosa’s older brother, then seven years later, my little girl arrived. I remember it as being the most magical time. It was something that I had always dreamed of and I suppose it just felt complete when she came to us and I am also very lucky to have an incredible husband.

What aspirations do you have for your children, Carol?

I really, really hope that my children find their passions in life. I also want to ensure that we stay close throughout their lives, that I am there to help support them when they have their families, and most of all, I want them to find happiness in what they do.

What does the gift of jewellery mean to you?

Carol: I’ve been so lucky to receive some wonderful pieces of jewellery and one of the things that I’ve always said to Rosa is that jewellery is enduring. I can’t wait to be able to hand on my jewellery to her. They aren’t hugely expensive pieces. It’s really about things that have sentimental value and I think that one thing Rosa really understands is that when I have given her pieces, they will last forever and they will be looked after and they will be passed onto her daughter as well.
